Baby Clothes

Filed under: Kids & Parents — admin at 10:32 am on Thursday, April 30, 2009

Congratulations if you are a new parent! Aren’t you eager to dress your newborn in those adorable cute outfits but you must know that your baby will quickly outgrow them. So buying baby clothes can be quite a challenge and it will largely depend upon your baby’s growth and your budget. While you set out to shop for those cute outfits keep a few basic buying tips in mind.

1. Always buy a larger size. You will be wasting money if you buy clothes that fit your baby perfectly. Babies grow very fast in the first few years and buying a larger size will ensure a longer life for the clothes.

2. Take weather into consideration. For example if your baby is due in winter you’ll have to store your baby’s wardrobe with winter clothes. Baby clothes are labeled according to the age groups and when you are tempted to buy an outfit make a weather prediction first -What will be the weather like when my baby is of that age? In this way you will invest in clothes that will fit your newborn and also be seasonally appropriate.

3. Functionality of clothes is most important. The clothes should be easy to put on. One-piece jumpsuits, clothes with front buckles or snaps or zippers will be more comfortable for the baby. You must be able to change the baby’s clothes and diapers easily and for this purpose snap crotches and stretchy necklines will be of great help. Try and avoid buying clothes with buttons, beads or clasps. Do not buy scratchy materials and even if you buy clothes with frills and lace or embroidery make sure that they are easy to pull off and comfortable for the baby.

4. Store up for emergencies. Babies spill food all the time and if they become sick they may throw up on their outfit itself. You will have to change the baby into a clean set of clothes a number of times in a day. Especially when you are traveling with the baby and you neither have time nor the necessary arrangement for washing, you will need a lot of extra clothing for the baby.

5. Do not refuse Hand me downs. Your relatives or friends might offer you their children’s clothes. These may be new clothes that a child may never have worn for babies outgrow their clothes very fast, or these may be second hand clothes. You can add to your baby’s wardrobe in this manner.

6. Covering the feet is equally important. Those tiny feet need care and one-piece outfits with footies attached are ideal. Socks would be another alternative but most infants pull them off and if your baby is already walking or is able to stand up then you could go for those adorable little shoes with squeakers.

7. Wash the clothes first. Wash the clothes before you dress your baby. Clothes that you buy might have had a long shelf life, you never know! New clothes may cause skin irruptions and irritation. Washing will not only clean them but also make the clothes softer. A baby’s skin is extremely sensitive and you have to take extra care to keep his clothes dirt free.
Before you go shopping for your bundle of joy keep these tips in mind. Baby clothes can be quite expensive so you need to know beforehand exactly what kind of clothes you are looking for, taking into consideration weather factors, the infant’s growth and your finances. You will never run out of options and shopping for your baby can be real fun!

Protect Your Business from the Recession with Bargain Workplace Furniture

Filed under: Shopping Center — admin at 3:17 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2009

The UK credit crunch might often be a tough situation for any small to medium firm, especially with the rate of businesses having to sack workers in the last 9 months. With the British credit crunch it extremely makes the majority of organisation finance directors to decide to cut budgets for practically anything like workplace furniture. With all of this in mind, the greater part of the finance departments are now looking at used furniture or bargain furniture. Search online for Laptop Stands from ComputerFurnitureWarehouse.com

Long gone are the times when business owners would dress the office in oak and pine antique chairs from the Edwardian era and have marble flooring at reception. Various now use cheap furniture. The good thing about affordable furniture is that organisation owners might often actually get much more for your cash than firm owners would expect. For the similar price of an antique oak computer desk, accountants might probably afford to buy a woodchip desk, office chair, filing unit and office plant.

With the credit crunch, various companies will be seeking for ways to reduce costs. Assessing the cost that is not necessary might help tons of organisations free up cash to improve their money situation. So next time you are seeking to find office furniture be fully aware that there is a less costly option out there if business owners look for it.

What High School Students Can Do Over the Summer

Filed under: Kids & Parents — admin at 1:13 pm on Monday, April 27, 2009

There are so many options for summer activities, no wonder it can be
difficult to know where to begin. While reviewing how IvyWise students
have spent their summers, I noticed that their plans fell under six basic
categories. I included the a few examples in each category to help you
get started.

1. Make a Difference

Community service is always a valuable endeavor, and the summer is a
wonderful time to make a difference in your community. One IvyWise
student spent two summers in high school traveling to India, where she
worked to improve the environment of a local community where she had
family. Another IvyWise student worked full time with children with
disabilities.

2. Explore a Career

High school is a time to begin exploring possible careers for later in life.

This is especially true for juniors and seniors who may want practical
work experience before deciding what to study in college. One IvyWise
student knew she loved discussing movies with her friends, but had no
formal experience in the film business. Therefore, she used the summer
before her junior year of high school to intern with an independent film
company. Doing so gave her the practical experience that helped her
realize that she did, in fact, want to study film in college. As a visual artist
also interested in business, another IvyWise student decided to spend
the summer before his senior year in college working for an advertising
firm. Over the summer he realized that advertising was not the
profession for him. Eliminating a career possibility brought him a step
closer to discovering what he truly enjoys.

3. Follow a Passion

One IvyWise student just loved biology. He took every possible science
course available in his large high school, but it never seemed to be
enough. Therefore, he decided to spend his summer doing research
with a professor at a university well known for its strength in the
sciences. He was able to spend most of the summer doing cancer
research, and included a summary of his work in his college
applications. Another IvyWise student had a passion for all things
French. Therefore, she spent the summer before her junior year of high
school in France, studying the language, teaching English, and
exploring the culture.

4. Try Something New

Taking a risk and trying something new isn’t always easy, but high
school is a great time to learn to take risks and by doing so, discover
new interests and talents. One IvyWise student had never picked up a
camera in her life, but decided that the summer before her sophomore
year of high school, she’d like to try. She enrolled in a photography
program, and developed her skills as a photographer. Another IvyWise
student spoke Spanish at home, but decided to use his Spanish
language skills in a new way. On a service trip to the Dominican
Republic, he became the translator for the group, and facilitated
connections between his peers and the people they encountered on
their trip. He learned how his language skills could help him connect
with people with whom he had previously thought he had little in
common.

5. Achieve a Goal

Getting away from the hectic schedule of high school can mean more
time to do those things you always wanted, but never had the time. A
politically inclined IvyWise student decided he would read all the non-
fiction political books he could find, as he was rarely assigned such a
book in high school. At the end of the summer he had an impressive
reading list (that he actually included in his college application), and
became more confident when discussing his ideas. Of course, goals
depend on the individual, and could include climbing a mountain,
learning to knit, becoming more outgoing, or writing a novel.

6. Do What You Want

In addition to the programs, the internships, the jobs, the college visits,
or whatever else might be part of your summer, there should also be
time for family, friends, and just for you. No matter how you spend your
summer, do not forget to do the things that make you feel happy and
energizedwhether that means spending extra time with your younger
sibling before you leave for college, swimming in the ocean, making
time to see friends you haven’t seen in awhile between tests and athletic
games, reflecting on the past year, going out for ice cream, or anything
else, you shouldn’t forget to relax and have fun.

Barbie Dolls

Filed under: Kids & Parents — admin at 8:30 am on Monday, April 27, 2009

I am interested in creating sites on topics related primarily to young children. My first venture, is a site dedicated to dolls and doll houses.

Whilst carrying out reaseach for this site, I was blown away by the amount of information there was to be gained by studying Barbie and other dolls.

The whole world over, Barbie is the doll that every girls just got to have. Why? Well, over the years, Barbie has managed to stay in tune with her owners, in dress, physical appearance and at the same time maintain her unique sweetness that has captured the hearts of generations of young girls. The picture to the left is of the first every Barbie (notice the distinctive outfit). If you are lucky to own one of these original dolls, you are setting on a potential fortune!

Today, there are many different type of Barbie dolls available and there are collectors clubs all over the world. This is a far cry from the relatively humble beginnings at the 1956 toy fair. Would Ruth Handler, Barbie’s creator every thought her creation would one day be part of American day to day life as it is today? Barbie was invented by Ruth Handler in 1950. At the time, most of the dolls available were targeted at the adult market and were generally made of cloth or paper. For a full history of Barbie, please click here.

Barbie was named after Barbara Handler, the daughter of the creators Ruth and Elliot Handler. They also had a son called Ken - sound familiar!

Did you know, Barbie dolls sell at a rate of 2 every second!

The most successful Barbie doll ever created was Totally Hair Barbie, introduced in 1992. With hair from the top of her head to her toes, Totally Hair Barbie sold more than 10 million.

Barbie actually ran for the Presidency. The issues Barbie campaigned on included equality, world peace, animal kindness, education, and the environment- things which all leaders openly support.

Please take a look at my collection of beautiful Barbie pictures. Some of these dolls are over 30 years old! I have also added loads of links at the bottom of my page, for further info and pictures.

Finding the Best Translation Service

Filed under: Language & More — admin at 11:31 am on Sunday, April 26, 2009

As the world grows smaller; people travel across the globe more frequently and more business is done internationally, translation services are increasingly in demand. A translation service can now be needed for anything from the translation of an education certificate to translating a website. Due to the demand there are now hundreds of translation agencies across the globe.

Finding a translation service can be daunting. Where does one start to look for a translation service and when they find one, how do they know if they will be able to do the job well? What questions should one ask? This article will offer some useful tips on how to find a translation service to meet your needs.

Where to find a translation service?

There are three main ways of finding a translation service.
The first port of call should be your local directory such as the Yellow Pages. If you have a specific business directory for your area then even better. Simply look up “translation” or it may sometimes be under “translators & interpreters”. Have thumb through the listings and earmark some to contact.

The second, and easiest, means of finding a translation service is through the internet. Using the main search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN can bring up hundreds of listings. One added advantage of using a search engine is that you can be more specific with your searches. For example, if you are looking for a translation service local to you type “translation service London” or “translation service Oxford”. Similarly if you are in need of a specific language try something like “German translation service”.

With search engine results you will be presented with two types of listings, paid listings (advertisements) and organic listings (non-advertised results). It is good to bear in mind that those with organic listings are there for a reason, i.e. the search engine naturally sees them as important sites for translation services. On the other hand paid listings will be from companies that need the business. This is not necessarily a negative thing but good to consider when making a choice.

The last means of finding a translation service is to ask colleagues, friends or family. A personal recommendation is always best.

Contacting the translation service

Once you have a list of the translation service providers you want to contact, it is then key that you are prepared with information necessary to get an accurate quote.

Any decent translation service will want to know what languages they are translating from and into, the length of the document (especially the number of source words), the nature of the text (is it business or technical?), the format of the document (is it a paper document, an email or brochure?), when you need the translation delivered by and if necessary what format it should be delivered in. These details will help the translation service price your piece of work. However, remember that many translation service providers may not give you a concrete quote until they see the document. This is because once they see it they may realise they under-quoted you due to unforeseen elements such as the format, poor image quality or technicality of the document. It is always a good idea to have your translation in a format that can be emailed or faxed.

When speaking to the customer service agent make sure you thoroughly explain your needs. A good translation service however will always ask the right questions so they get a decent grasp of what you will need.

Questions to ask the translation service

Once you have established the cost of your translation it is always a good idea to probe the translation service with a few more questions to gain a better understanding of their capabilities.

For example here are 10 basic questions:

1. If they gave you on price, ask what their charge is per 1000 words?

2. Will they charge you per source word or per target word? For example, if you are having a document translated from Italian to English, Italian will be the source language.

3. Is the quote they gave you fixed? i.e. they can not charge you more afterwards.

4. Are all their translators qualified? What is their procedure for hiring translators?

5. Do their translators work solely into their native languages?

6. If your deadline is missed how will you still have to pay?

7. Does the price include proof-reading by another translator?

8. If your translation is specific or technical, do the translators have experience in the subject matter?

9. What format will they return your translation in?

10. If it is a large or important job it is possible to ask for a trial translation - however, this may not always be free.

These questions for your translation service should give you some insight into their understanding of the industry and their capabilities.

Which translation service?

Ultimately for many people, when it comes to the crunch they choose a translation service based on cost, location and speed of service. There are no hard and fast rules as to how to choose a translation service and it is really up to the individual to go with what they feel it best for them.

In the general scheme of things most translation service providers are bona fide and professional outfits. If when asking the questions above to a translation service you sense a level of uncertainty then it may be best to go with the service that seems to know what you want and how to give it to you.

Is Cord Blood Banking Right For You?

Filed under: Kids & Parents — admin at 6:34 am on Friday, April 24, 2009

Saving your baby’s umbilical cord blood allows it to be cryogenically stored, and then available if your child later becomes sick and needs a bone marrow transplant. Umbilical cord blood was discarded until the 1970’s, when researchers discovered that umbilical cord blood could save lives under certain circumstances. How do you decide on cord blood banking? Many soon-to-be parents ask this very question. Here are some things to consider when deciding on whether or not to bank your baby’s umbilical cord blood.

This type of transplant would be ‘autologous’ and is different than the more common ‘allogenic’ transplants that might be done from a sibling or other relative or an unrelated donor. Our own blood is the best choice for a transplant.

Often times, cord blood banking can save a baby’s life. But still, there are many other factors to consider. Price seems to be the number one roadblock, with the complete cost being around $3,000. So, you should certainly not feel guilty if you cannot bank your child’s cord blood. Should you even consider cord blood banking? That part will be up to you.

However, if you already have a child or family member that has a condition that can be treated with a stem cell transplant (such as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, leukemia, metabolic storage disorders and certain genetic immunodeficiencies), then you defenitely should consider banking your child’s umbilical cord blood. However, the average baby without risk factors has a very low chance of ever needing his or her cord blood.

On the other hand, some doctors and researchers support saving umbilical cord blood as a source of blood-forming stem cells in every delivery. This is mainly because of the promise that stem-cell research holds for the future. The majority of people would have little use for stem cells now, but research into the use of stem cells for treatment of disease is ongoing - and the future looks promising.

You may also want to donate your baby’s cord blood. This is possible through non-profit cord blood banks that use it for research or to save the life of another child.

Overall, cord blood banking looks to have a promising future. It’s defenitely an option you should look into. After you’ve studied the facts and your family history, you should be able to make a much more informed decision on what’s right for you.

Poker Fiction: I’m Not Good at Poker

Filed under: Games + Cheats, Gambling Wheels, Fun Places — admin at 4:26 pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I challenged Marcus to a game of heads up no limit poker. I had seen the guys on TV raking in money and had studied their casino play for a few hours, at least. Marcus always wore a gold chain around his neck, which he bragged he’d bought with other people’s money. Marcus was an idiot. If he could win people’s money, so could I. If Phil Hellmuth could win other people’s money, so could I.

We hired a dealer, a girl in a tight shirt and curls. We set up the table in my mother’s kitchen. She made us breakfast and we started playing. Everyone we knew had come over to see the big championship game. Turns out I’m not good at online poker. Turns out Marcus is.

Turns out Marcus won all the money I’d been saving to buy a gold chain necklace like his from the money I’d made mowing lawns for six months straight.

v Turns out I can’t just keep going all-in every hand like those guys on TV do and find my way into the win.

Marcus was nice enough to let me rebuy and rebuy on credit, though I had to sign the contracts his attorney had written up.

After the tournament, at which point I owed Marcus the next $13,400 I would make mowing lawns, Marcus took everybodyme, my mother, the cute dealer, all our friendsto dinner and we all got dessert.

Get Real - Tell Me My Prospect’s of Winning the Euro Millions and Does Any Player Stand a True Chance of Succeeding

Filed under: The Virtual Lifestyle, Gambling Wheels, Gaming + Bets — admin at 1:38 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2009

The probability of scooping the Euromillions jackpot is a remote one in 76 million but the chances of winning a cash prize is a somewhat decent 1 : twenty four. If the jackpot is not won on a given week, it is carried over to the following lottery draw which results in an ever increasing jackpot value. Recent rules brought in on the 09-Feb-07 limit the amount of successive rollovers to eleven, with the jack-pot rolled out to lower prize levels in the 11th lottery draw if the prize is not won.

The Euro millions lotto or the Euro lotto, as it is ordinarily renowned, gathers the lottery ticket receipts of the nine partaking Euro countries showing a gigantic Euro Lottery jackpot. With the number of countries joining the Euro on the increase, this will without a doubt lead to even more states partaking in the Euro Millions lotto. A growth in the number of people partaking in the euromillions will lead to a continuing increase of the already enormous EuroMillions jackpots.

The new regulations likewise initiated European Lottery Super Draw which come about twice annually and offer jackpots in the region of 100 million pounds. The difference with Super Draws is that the jackpot has to be collected during the week of the lotto draw; as a result, if there is no lottery ticket matching, all the numbers drawn and the top prize will then be distributed to the ticket holder(s) on the succeeding winning prize tier.

Every player has to pick out 5 main numbers from one to fifty plus 2 Lucky-star numbers from one to nine. During the draw, 5 primary plus two lucky-star numbers are then picked out at random from two lotto draw machines containing numbered balls.
